Preservative Excipients

Preservative Excipients - Staph Bacteria

Preservative excipients are included in pharmaceutical dosage forms to control the microbial bioburden of the formulation. The activity of a preservative is dependent on the correct form of the preservative being available in the formulation at the required concentration to inhibit microbial growth. While preservative excipients are growing in interest, their use requires research into possible molecular interaction that could eventually weaken the stability and antimicrobial activity of the formulation.
