Finasteride belongs to the group of steroids. The active substance inhibits an enzyme that degrades testosterone. The degradation product accelerates the cell division rate and thus the enlargement of the prostatic tissue, but also hair loss. It is used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperblasia (benign prostate enlargement) and hair loss.
