In addition to its direct effect on bone resorption, eldecalcitol improves intestinal calcium absorption (the mode of action of conventional vitamin D analogs). In osteoporotic patients taking vitamin D supplements, eldecalcitol showed stronger effects than alfacalcidol in increasing BMD and reducing bone resorption markers.
