Charles River: The Remarkable Success Story of the Horseshoe Crab

The Atlantic horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus, is an ancient mariner with a lineage that goes back 440 million years. It is an important species both for its pivotal place in the ecosystem and for its valuable use in bio-medical applications. Much of the continued survival of the horseshoe crab can be attributed to its own inherent adaptability as well as modern-day government protection.
