Incubation conditions for the Pharmaceutical Environmental Monitoring (EM) test have been a topic of discussion over the last few years in terms of temperature and incubation strategy. Whether a single temperature or serial produces “better” results is under discussion, Symonds et al, Sage et al. For single temperatures the risk to detection of mold due to growth inhibition at 30-35°C has been introduced with the recommendation to move to 25-30°C, Gordon et al. Moldenhauer has proposed a validation strategy to define the optimal conditions for each monitored site.
