Agilent Technologies Will Host Webinar to Address Helium-to-Hydrogen Conversion for Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 19, 2012 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced it will sponsor a Chemical & Engineering News webinar discussing the conversion of Agilent EI GC/MSD systems from helium to hydrogen carrier gas. The webinar will occur on Oct. 9 at 11a.m. ET.

Throughout this year, many consumers of analytical-grade helium received notification about prices going up and helium deliveries being delayed or suspended.

"The analytical community has been dealing with shortages in helium and pending disruption of day-to-day activities," said Cynthia Cai, Agilent gas phase solutions and commercialization manager. "Agilent is providing a timely solution to GC/MS users, including those using GC/MS for environmental, toxicology, food, energy and chemical applications."

The webinar will discuss the crucial details for converting Agilent EI GC/MSD instruments from helium to hydrogen carrier gas. Along with considerations regarding system safety and leak detection, analysts must recognize the differences with using hydrogen carrier, plan for method adaptation, optimization and validation, and required change to standard operating procedures. This webinar will review steps recommended for converting EI GC/MS methods from helium to hydrogen carrier gas, including hardware optimization, analyte stability, consideration for column and chromatographic conditions, and potential change to analytical sensitivity.
