Johnson & Johnson has announced the appointment of John Reed, M.D., Ph.D., to the Company's Executive Committee as the Executive Vice President of Pharmaceuticals, R&D. Dr. Reed has over 35 years of experience in biomedical research leadership and was previously the Executive Vice President, Global Head of Research and Development at Sanofi.
Dr. Reed will take on his new role on April 3, 2023, and will assume responsibility for Johnson & Johnson's leading portfolio from William Hait, M.D., Ph.D., who has been serving as interim head of the Pharmaceutical R&D organization since August 2022.
Joaquin Duato, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Johnson & Johnson, expressed confidence in Dr. Reed's ability to lead the Pharmaceutical R&D organization, stating that his experience and leadership will accelerate innovation and competitiveness, increase focus and discipline in investment, and bring transformational medicines to patients around the world.

Dr. John Reed is a highly regarded researcher with a distinguished career in non-profit, academia, and industry. He created a culture that prioritized the urgent needs of patients at Sanofi and led a global team of R&D professionals that brought multiple important medicines to market during his tenure. He has authored over 900 research publications and invented over 130 patents, making him one of the world's most highly cited scientists. Dr. Reed is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and has received numerous honors and awards, including being recognized among the top 10 most cited researchers in life sciences and medicine for a decade.
