Biocon Biologics has expanded its partnership with U.S.-based nonprofit Civica, Inc. to introduce a private-label insulin glargine designed to increase access to affordable diabetes treatments across the United States.
Under the new multi-year agreement, Biocon Biologics will manufacture and supply insulin glargine, which Civica will market and distribute under its own label, while Biocon Biologics maintains ownership of the product’s intellectual property and FDA approval. In California, the insulin will carry the state’s CalRx brand, part of efforts to make essential medicines more affordable.
The initiative aims to provide additional treatment options for the 38.4 million Americans living with diabetes. Biocon Biologics’ insulin glargine-yfgn, approved by the FDA in 2021 as the first interchangeable biosimilar of its kind, will continue to be sold alongside the Civica-branded version.
Biocon Biologics CEO and Managing Director Shreehas Tambe said the collaboration reinforces the company’s mission to expand access to high-quality, affordable insulins. Civica CEO Ned McCoy emphasized that the partnership advances Civica’s mission of offering life-saving medications at transparent, low prices to underserved patients nationwide.
