Bio-Thera and Intas Expand Partnership for Proposed Simponi Biosimilar BAT2506 in India

Bio-Thera Solutions has expanded its partnership with Intas Pharmaceuticals through an exclusive commercialization and license agreement in India for BAT2506, a proposed biosimilar referencing golimumab (Simponi). BAT2506 has been developed by Bio-Thera as a golimumab biosimilar and represents the company’s first biosimilar partnership for the Indian market.

Golimumab is a human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that targets tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), a pro-inflammatory molecule. Binding of golimumab to TNF-α leads to reductions in several inflammatory markers, including C-reactive protein, interleukin 6, intercellular adhesion molecule 1, matrix metalloproteinase 3, and vascular endothelial growth factor. The reference golimumab medicine has been approved in Canada for multiple indications, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and ulcerative colitis.

Bio-Thera stated that it views India as an important and growing market with many patients who may benefit from BAT2506 and other biosimilars in its pipeline. The company described the agreement with Intas as the beginning of broader efforts to bring its therapies to India. Intas said that expanding the collaboration for BAT2506 supports its goal of increasing access to high-quality biosimilar therapies in the country by combining Bio-Thera’s development capabilities with Intas’ established commercial presence.

According to Intas and its affiliate Accord Healthcare, the collaboration is intended to strengthen their immunology portfolio and their position in a key therapeutic area in India. The companies characterized the arrangement as a strategic, long-term alliance focused on science-driven biosimilar assets, with the aim of enhancing capabilities, supporting sustainable portfolio growth, and meeting the growing need for advanced biologic treatment options across the country.
