Profluent announced a multi-program strategic research collaboration with Eli Lilly and Company to develop and commercialize custom, site-specific recombinases for genetic medicine applications. The partnership combines Profluent’s artificial intelligence (AI) platform for protein design with Lilly’s capabilities in genetic medicines, with the goal of enabling large-scale, precise DNA editing that is not achievable with conventional gene editing systems.
Under the agreement, Profluent will use its foundation models to design and optimize AI-generated recombinases that are programmed to recognize and act at defined genomic sites. Lilly will receive exclusive rights to advance selected recombinases through in vivo research, preclinical development, clinical studies, and commercialization. The collaboration is intended to support the development of programmable gene-editing therapeutics across multiple disease areas with significant unmet medical needs.
Profluent will receive an upfront payment and committed research and development funding from Lilly. In addition, Profluent is eligible to receive up to 2.25 billion dollars in development and commercial milestone payments, as well as tiered royalties on net sales of any products arising from the collaboration. Further financial and operational details of the agreement were not disclosed.
