Bristol Myers Squibb, Anthropic Sign AI Platform Agreement

Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) has entered into a strategic agreement with Anthropic to deploy Claude as a shared AI platform across its global operations. The company plans to roll out Claude across research, clinical development, manufacturing, commercial, and corporate functions, giving more than 30,000 employees access to the tool’s advanced reasoning and agent-based capabilities. The move builds on several years of internal AI investment at BMS, including a proprietary platform providing access to multiple frontier models.

A key focus of the collaboration is the use of Claude Code to support engineering and data science teams, with the goal of standardizing software and AI development and improving access to data and internal expertise. BMS will also evaluate Claude as an agentic layer within priority workflows across the value chain, including target identification and optimization in oncology, hematology, neuroscience, and immunology, as well as automation of trial documentation and support for regulatory submissions. In manufacturing and quality, the company aims to apply AI to root-cause investigations, corrective and preventive action documentation, and batch-release decisions, while commercial and medical teams intend to use Claude to structure field insights and support more tailored engagement with healthcare professionals.

Through secure integrations with internal systems and data repositories, BMS plans to connect Claude to its scientific, clinical, regulatory, and commercial information under existing governance and audit controls. Executives from both companies said the agreement is intended to make AI more deeply embedded in daily operations, using an agent-based approach to link previously siloed data and support decision-making across the organization.
