Asahi Kasei Life Science Licenses Novel ADC Platform from The Noguchi Institute for Next-Generation Cancer Therapies

Asahi Kasei Life Science has acquired licensing rights to a new antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) technology from The Noguchi Institute, aiming to advance more efficient and safer cancer treatments. The platform allows precise control of both the drug-to-antibody ratio and the attachment site for single- and dual-payload ADCs, which the companies describe as an important step toward more effective and predictable therapies across a range of indications.

ADCs pair the targeting capability of antibodies with the cell-killing potency of cytotoxic drugs, enabling more selective delivery of treatment to cancer cells while limiting damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Building on extensive research in carbohydrates and glycans, The Noguchi Institute has developed an ADC technology with improved molecular structure conformity, which is expected to enhance predictability of both efficacy and safety and support more stable therapeutic effects.

Asahi Kasei Life Science said it actively seeks collaborations with external partners to access technologies that can underpin future drug development. The Noguchi Institute’s ADC modality improves precision and also enables two different payloads to be attached to a single antibody, opening possibilities for targeting additional diseases with greater specificity and potentially reduced toxicity.

Under the licensing agreement, Asahi Kasei Life Science and The Noguchi Institute plan to advance commercialization of ADC drug platforms, including potential future sub-licensing to biopharmaceutical companies and contract development and manufacturing organizations such as Bionova Scientific, an Asahi Kasei company. The partners also intend to conduct joint research to further refine the technology and address unmet medical needs.
