Charles River, Lilly TuneLab Partner to Link AI Drug Discovery With Standardized Nonclinical Testing

Charles River Laboratories said it has entered a collaboration with Lilly TuneLab, an AI/ML drug discovery platform created by Eli Lilly and Company, to provide nonclinical testing services for companies participating in TuneLab. The platform gives biotech participants access to prediction models trained on decades of Lilly’s proprietary research data, with contributors supplying their own data back into the system under a federated learning approach to further improve model performance. Companies can use these models to down-select candidate molecules more rapidly, while Charles River’s role is to generate standardized nonclinical data to help validate discovery decisions.

The partners said that aligning and standardizing protocols for nonclinical testing across TuneLab users is intended to help the AI/ML models learn more efficiently from ongoing data contributions, which in turn could improve model accuracy and platform efficiency over time. Charles River noted that the collaboration combines its long-standing nonclinical testing expertise with TuneLab’s computational tools.

Lilly TuneLab operates within Lilly’s broader Catalyze360 ecosystem, which also includes Lilly Ventures, Lilly Gateway Labs and Lilly ExploR&D. Together, these programs are designed to support biotech innovation by providing access to capital, laboratory space, technology, and research and development capabilities.
