Novo Nordisk has entered a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services to accelerate drug discovery and modernize operations through agentic artificial intelligence and cloud technology.
The companies have created a co-innovation hub in London that will bring together AWS engineers, AI specialists and applied scientists with Novo Nordisk research and development teams. The goal is to shorten the path from identifying a drug target to administering a first dose in humans.
Novo Nordisk has named AWS its preferred cloud provider and strategic AI partner. The collaboration combines Novo Nordisk’s knowledge in chronic diseases with AWS cloud infrastructure, AI tools and life-sciences technologies.
The Danish drugmaker said it has already recorded measurable results from its collaboration with AWS, including reducing clinical documentation time and enabling more than 25,000 employees to increase productivity. The new agreement is intended to build on that relationship and establish secure technology foundations for the development of future therapies.
Novo Nordisk plans to use services including Amazon Bio Discovery and Amazon Bedrock to identify drug targets, accelerate the design of new therapies and connect genomic, imaging and clinical data. The company said linking those datasets could allow early research findings to influence clinical-trial design. It will also use Amazon Bedrock AgentCore to introduce AI agents intended to improve operational efficiency.
Novo Nordisk President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Doustdar said the partnership is designed to make AI a driver of innovation throughout the company. He said combining Novo Nordisk’s scientific capabilities with AWS life-sciences tools and a dedicated London co-innovation hub could accelerate discovery and support responsible AI development for people living with serious chronic diseases.
AWS Chief Executive Officer Matt Garman said the work will focus on helping get appropriate medicines to patients faster. He said the companies will use AWS technologies and Novo Nordisk science teams to compress drug-discovery timelines, securely process complex data and scale findings across therapeutic areas.
Novo Nordisk also works with other Amazon healthcare businesses, including Amazon Pharmacy, Amazon Ads and Amazon One Medical, in efforts to improve how therapies are marketed and delivered to patients.
