Former Novartis Executive Named Legend Biotech CEO

Legend Biotech has appointed former Novartis International Chief Commercial Officer Ingrid Zhang as chief executive officer, effective Sept. 15.

Zhang succeeds Alan Bash, who had served as interim chief executive officer since July 2026. Bash will return to his role as president of CARVYKTI, according to the company.

Zhang most recently served as chief commercial officer for Novartis International. During her time at Novartis, she also led the company’s China business and innovative medicines organization.

Earlier in her career, Zhang held leadership roles at AstraZeneca, Pfizer and McKinsey & Company, Legend said.

Legend’s board appointed Zhang following a board-led search process. Frank Zhang, the company’s board chairman, said the board selected her to lead the company’s next phase.

Legend Biotech is a cell-therapy company. The company said Zhang will work with its leadership team on its pipeline, commercial operations and longer-term strategy.

Bash became interim CEO in July. The company did not provide a reason for the CEO transition, identify the prior permanent chief executive or disclose details of the search process.

In a statement, Zhang said she plans to focus on the company’s cell-therapy operations, pipeline and growth strategy.

Legend said Bash will continue as president of CARVYKTI following the appointment. CARVYKTI is identified by the company as part of Bash’s continuing leadership responsibilities.
