Asahi Kasei will bring its pharmaceutical businesses in Japan, the United States, Sweden and Germany under the Asahi Kasei Therapeutics brand, creating a single global management structure.
The change covers Asahi Kasei Therapeutics in Japan, Veloxis Pharmaceuticals in the United States, Calliditas Therapeutics in Sweden and AiCuris Anti-infective Cures in Germany. The company said the structure will allow it to make decisions about resources across the pharmaceutical business rather than by subsidiary or region.
Asahi Kasei is targeting approximately $1.9 billion in annual pharmaceutical net sales by fiscal 2030. It also plans to invest approximately $254 million in licensing rights to outside medicines over three years under its medium-term management plan.
The company built its international pharmaceutical operations through acquisitions. It bought Veloxis in 2020, adding a U.S. business focused on kidney transplantation. Its 2024 acquisition of Calliditas expanded its kidney disease portfolio and operations in Europe and the United States. Asahi Kasei acquired AiCuris in 2026, adding infectious disease programs and European development capabilities.
The combined business focuses on immunology, nephrology, transplantation and infectious diseases. Its products and related assets include the transplant drug Envarsus XR, the kidney disease treatment Tarpeyo and royalty income associated with Prevymis, an antiviral treatment.
Yoshikazu Aoki, global president of Asahi Kasei Therapeutics, said the new structure is intended to support decisions across the business and future licensing opportunities. The release did not describe changes to staffing or manufacturing sites.
