Mara G. Freire completed her PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2007 by UA, followed by post-doctoral activities at ITQB-NOVA, Portugal. Since 2014, Freire is a Coordinator Researcher at CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials, Chemistry Department, UA, Portugal. She is the coordinator of Group 5 - Biomedic and Biomimetic Materials
- within CICECO, and member of the Young Scientists Seminar of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. In addition to other projects and awards, in 2014 Freire was awarded with a European Research Council (ERC) Grant. Her research interests comprise the development of sustainable separation platforms for value-added compounds using aqueous solutions of ionic liquids and other organic salts, polymers, and deep eutectic solvents.
