As a long-suffering New York Mets fan I’m pretty used to poor performances on the field. There have been a few bright spots in the more than 50 years the Mets have been playing baseball, but for the most part it’s been a steady stream of hope and then disappointment.

One thing Mets fans CAN count on is the quality of the television broadcasters that have covered the team over the years. Dating back to the great team of Ralph Kiner, Bob Murphy, and Lindsey Nelson (and his outrageous sport coats) to today’s team of Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling, and Gary Cohen, Mets fans have been blessed with great broadcasters who bring the game alive.

Radio broadcasters have been no different. And put me on record as saying baseball is really the only sport you can listen to on the radio and follow with any success.

One of the current Mets radio broadcasters is Howie Rose. Together with his other radio broadcasters, they paint a picture of each game that almost rivals watching the game on television.

And as most great announcers, Mr. Rose has a signature signoff at the end of each game. His “Put it in the books!” is exclaimed at the end of each game – but only when the Mets win. So, it’s something we

Mets fans don’t hear very often.

As 2018 comes to close I would like to use Mr. Rose’s signoff, change it a bit and say – Put 2018 in the books!

I sincerely hope 2018 has had more highs than lows for you.

I also wish you the best into 2019.
