This white paper reviews the conversion of oral and immediate-release injectable formulations into long-acting injectable microparticle and implant formulations. Such reformulation and repurposing strategies will continue to be used to achieve superior long-acting systemic and local delivery outcomes over the coming decade. This trend will be further accelerated by the combination of highly potent drugs with long-acting formulations to reduce injection volumes and extend the period of drug release.
