Biomanufacturing: Enhancing Transfection with Recombinant Transferrin

Optimizing biomanufacturing performance starts with raw material selection and media optimization. Serum-derived transferrin is well-known to improve transfection efficiency, but, for the first time, an analogous protocol has been developed that uses serum- and Blood-Free recombinant transferrin. This application is explored using chemically defined media, HEK293 cells, and lentivirus. The results demonstrate both enhanced transient transfection and an increase in viral titer that can scale to bioreactors.
