  Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLN)

SLN are controlled drug delivery systems that favor drug distribution at the epithelial interface and subsequent passage across cell membranes. The technology is of potential interest in enhancing drug bioavailability in various routes of administration. SLN technology uses biodegradable, biocompatible, and safe excipients resulting in a significantly lower cytotoxicity when compared to other colloidal systems. Recent publications affirm the utility of SLN for encapsulating peptides as well as controlled delivery of poorly soluble small molecules.
