Description
Ondansetron hydrochloride is a drug that selectively acts as an agonist on 5-HT3 receptors (serotonin receptors). If the cell death of serotonin-rich cells is triggered by radiotherapy or cytostatic therapy, the vomiting center is activated. Ondansetron blocks this reaction and can therefore be used as an antiemetic in tumor therapy. It is also effective in postoperative vomiting. The current data suggest that it also could be used for maternity sickness.
