ApplicationDodecylamine serves multiple purposes due to its unique properties as a primary aliphatic amine. In its solid state, it appears as a white, ammoniacal-smelling substance with a melting point between 27 and 31°C, transitioning to a yellow, oily liquid upon melting with a boiling point of 259°C. Dodecylamine can be utilized as a modifier in creating dodecylamine-incorporated sodium montmorillonite and as an effective adsorbent for hexavalent chromium. It is also a key component in synthesizing biodegradable, water-soluble polymeric materials like DDA-poly(aspartic acid). In addition, dodecylamine functions as an organic surfactant in the synthesis of Sn(IV)-containing layered double hydroxides, which have applications as ion exchangers, adsorbents, ion conductors, and catalysts. Furthermore, it acts as a complexing, reducing, and capping agent in the production of pentagonal silver nanowires.
