AstraZeneca Licenses Novel Oral EGFR Inhibitor Zegfrovy For Global Lung Cancer Development

AstraZeneca has entered an exclusive global license agreement with Dizal Pharmaceutical for Zegfrovy (sunvozertinib), a novel oral irreversible epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor for lung cancer.

Under the deal, AstraZeneca will acquire worldwide rights to develop and commercialize Zegfrovy outside Dizal’s existing markets. Zegfrovy is already approved in both the United States and China for adults with locally advanced or metastatic non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harboring EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations whose disease has progressed following platinum‑based chemotherapy.

Financial terms include a $600 million upfront payment from AstraZeneca to Dizal and up to $900 million in additional development, regulatory, and sales‑related milestone payments, plus tiered royalties on global net sales. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to customary regulatory clearances.

Zegfrovy is described as an irreversible EGFR inhibitor that targets a broad spectrum of EGFR mutations with selectivity over wild‑type EGFR, aiming to improve efficacy while limiting off‑target toxicity. EGFR exon 20 insertions represent a distinct subset of EGFR‑mutated NSCLC with historically limited targeted treatment options.

AstraZeneca said the agreement would expand its lung cancer portfolio, building on its existing EGFR‑targeted therapies and supporting development across additional EGFR mutant settings. The company plans to integrate Zegfrovy into its broader oncology pipeline and explore combinations and new indications in global clinical programs.
