Centrient Pharmaceuticals and Ginkgo Bioworks are expanding their partnership. Together, they aim to enhance Centrient's portfolio of environmentally friendly active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The partnership initially focused on improving the sustainability of fermentation and enzymatic syntheses of beta-lactam antibiotic APIs. Ginkgo delivered an enzyme that significantly improved efficiency in producing amoxicillin and cephalexin APIs, reducing the environmental footprint. Centrient plans to further enhance these improvements through ongoing strain projects on Ginkgo's platform, focusing on reducing carbon emissions and waste production. This strategic collaboration aligns with Centrient's purpose of sustainable manufacturing and enables the diversification of their portfolio. Ginkgo Bioworks is dedicated to supporting biopharma companies and looks forward to expanding their efforts to improve patient outcomes.
