Novavax Transfers Nuvaxovid® EU Marketing Authorization to Sanofi, Secures $25M Milestone Payment

Novavax has finalized the transfer of European Union marketing authorization for its COVID-19 vaccine Nuvaxovid® to Sanofi, enabling the French healthcare giant to assume full responsibility for all commercial and regulatory activities related to the product in the EU. The move triggered a $25 million milestone payment to Novavax, advancing the collaboration and license agreement between the two companies.

The strategic handoff supports Novavax’s ongoing corporate growth initiatives and underscores its goal of expanding the global reach of its protein-based, non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. According to the agreement, Novavax remains eligible for several future payments - including an additional $25 million for anticipated U.S. regulatory transfer, $75 million tied to the manufacturing technology transfer, and up to $350 million in milestones for Sanofi-developed combination products underpinned by Novavax’s Matrix-M adjuvant.
