Eisai and Biogen announced the U.S. market launch of LEQEMBI® IQLIK™, a new subcutaneous injection maintenance dose for the treatment of early Alzheimer’s disease. The once-weekly autoinjector provides an alternative for patients who have completed 18 months of intravenous (IV) therapy with lecanemab.
The FDA approved this formulation earlier this year, making LEQEMBI IQLIK the first Alzheimer’s therapy enabling at-home or caregiver-administered subcutaneous maintenance treatment. Previously, patients with mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia due to Alzheimer’s needed bi-weekly IV infusions—often requiring in-clinic visits—that could now be replaced by a rapid, 15-second subcutaneous injection. This new delivery aims to ease the chronic therapy burden on patients and their families, potentially expanding access to disease-modifying care.
LEQEMBI IQLIK is priced at $19,500 per year for the prefilled autoinjector and will be marketed and co-promoted by both Eisai and Biogen.
