Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada has appointed industry veteran Dimitri Gitas as its new country president, effective December 1, 2025, marking the return of the Montreal-born executive to the Canadian market after a series of international leadership roles. He succeeds Mark Vineis, who has moved to a new position within Novartis.
Novartis said Gitas will assume overall leadership of its Canadian strategy and operations, with a mandate to drive growth and expand access to the company’s innovative medicines. Based in Montreal, he will oversee activities across four key therapeutic pillars for Novartis in Canada: oncology, immunology, neuroscience and cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases.
Gitas joins from MSD, where he most recently served as managing director for the Swiss business following prior commercial roles in Canada, the United States, Greece and Poland. With more than two decades of experience in life sciences, he has led teams focused on market access, commercialization and stakeholder engagement in both mature and emerging markets.
