PharmaEssentia Corporation, a global biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Taiwan, has signed an investment agreement to establish a new manufacturing facility in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, marking a key milestone in its plan to build a dual-site manufacturing network across the United States and Taiwan. The facility is expected to begin operations in 2027.
The agreement was formalized on March 26 during a ceremony attended by Puerto Rico Governor Jenniffer González Colón, Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce Sebastián Negrón Reichard, and other U.S. and Taiwanese officials. The investment underscores growing economic collaboration between the two regions in biopharmaceutical innovation and supply chain resilience.
Governor González Colón said the project reinforces Puerto Rico’s standing as a competitive U.S. hub for advanced biopharmaceutical manufacturing, generating specialized jobs and contributing to domestic medicine supply stability.
PharmaEssentia’s Puerto Rico site will mirror its existing Taichung, Taiwan facility, operating under the same quality standards while enhancing manufacturing efficiency and risk diversification. Personnel for the new facility will undergo training in Taichung to ensure seamless technology and process transfer.
According to Dr. Ko-Chung Lin, Founder and CEO, the expansion represents a core strategic step to strengthen U.S. market support and advance manufacturing for the company’s global pipeline, including BESREMi® (ropeginterferon alfa-2b-njft).
The Puerto Rico investment forms part of PharmaEssentia’s long-term growth plan to bolster production capacity, reinforce global supply chain security, and enhance patient access to critical therapies.
