Particle size, material and fluorescence are important parameters to consider when selecting reference particles to calibrate and assess online water bioburden analyzers (OWBAs). OWBA systems use Mie scatter and laser-induced intrinsic fluorescence detection to monitor pharmaceutical water bioburden in real time. Reference particles are used to assess the system's particle and biologic detection performance. Data is presented on the importance of reference particle material, size, fluorescent dye and dye quantity to assess the sensitivity of an OWBA system.
