Description
Nitazoxanide is a synthetic 5-nitrothiazolyl salicylamide derivative used as an antiparasitic agent. It inhibits pyruvate-ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR) and consequently inhibits the energy metabolism of parasites. It is a prodrug that is converted under deacetylation to the active metabolite Tizoxanide. Nitazoxanide is not approved in Germany.
