Advances in human biology continues to identify novel druggable targets. New drugs are increasing in complexity, with many exhibiting insolubility in water and limited permeability in the small intestine. New molecules exhibiting low bioavailability pose fundamental challenges for medicinal chemists. Fortunately, new technologies have been developed that enable sufficient bioavailability of these compounds. Examples include spray dried dispersions, nano-milling, and hot melt extrusion. With appropriate expertise, these technologies can be developed into dosage forms such as suspensions, capsules and tablets. Read this free article to learn more about these and other bioavailability enhancing technologies and a development approach that can dramatically reduce time to clinic and launch.
