Dry Granulation Excipients

Disc granulator machine Dry Granulation Excipients

Dry granulation is a common option to produce solid oral dosage forms when process efficiency is vital.

Dry granulation allows dry handling of moisture sensitive active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). It is also a good option when an efficient, low-cost tableting process is required.

The most common approach for dry granulation is roll compaction. During this process a powder blend of all relevant ingredients is compressed between two rotating mills. The resulting flakes are then fractioned to the specific particle size need. These particles are then ready for final tablet compression.

Roll compaction provides the following advantages:

  • A trusted functionality
  • Ready-to-use solutions when time-to-market is critical
  • Predictable scale-up
  • Continuous processing
